About the Artist

Kehinde Wiley (b. 1977) is a Nigerian-American painter born in Los Angeles and based in New York City. He is known for his naturalistic paintings. He has had solo exhibitions at museums including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Phoenix Art Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum. He was commissioned to paint a portrait of former President Barack Obama for the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC; it was unveiled in 2018.
